Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine'

Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine'

What could be more romantic than a plant which produces heart-shaped flowers?

The beautiful Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine' brings a vibrant new look to the reliable old-fashioned Bleeding Heart. It features elegant arching stems, which are burgundy in colour. Each stem carries a delightful bloom of vibrant-red, heart-shaped flowers which are white at the tips. Delicate purple-tinged foliage appears through spring and summer and turns to an attractive deep-green colour as it matures.

‘Valentine’ is one of the earliest flowering perennials in early spring and dies back completely soon after flowering in summer. It looks fantastic in containers or borders, mixed amongst other summer flowers and is well suited to both formal and informal gardens. At full height, the Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine' will reach up to 80cm.

Dicentras were originally found growing in the northern hemisphere from Asia to North America. In their natural habitat, they would be found growing in the cool, damp outskirts of woodlands. With this in mind, ‘Valentine’ will grow happily in any moist, fertile soil which isn’t too heavy and are best grown in partial shade in a sheltered position.

Grown in the right conditions, this delightfully romantic perennial is truly hard to beat!
