Plants make a positive contribution to the environment. Coblands does everything to minimise the potential adverse impact its production activities may have. Minimal packaging is key to supporting our target towards reducing our packaging waste by 22% in 2012.Therefore we don’t believe in supplying our plants with excessive packaging that ultimately ends up in landfill, and we will take back all empty Coblands pots (provided they are palletised ready for easy collection). On our nursery in Tonbridge we conform to ISO4001, an environmental accreditation that supports respect for the environment and all within it. Cardboard, green waste and plastic pots are recycled and 85% of rain-water run off is collected and reused. Investment has been made in modern irrigation systems that not only save on labour but also conserve water which is becoming more of an issue in the South East with climate change. We only use biological control and more environmentally friendly chemicals to control pests and diseases on the site.Logistics around the site is via electric golf buggies; an environmentally friendly system capable of moving more plants at a time with increased efficiency and cost savings.Coblands is continually looking to improve it’s operations and reduce it’s impact on the environment which, along with the skills of our valued staff will help us become one of the leading nurseries in the UK.
